When you can see and hear your neighbors and your local service pros, there is a higher-level of connection and understanding that is difficult to achieve using other methods, such as through traditional online searches and endless scrolling through text-based user reviews. We believe that this higher-level of connection is the key to confidently pursuing home improvement projects with pros who have earned the trust of your neighbors and who seek to earn your trust as well.

Your NearPro app is your portal into a new kind of home improvement experience. Open your app and you can view video-based reviews of local pros made by your neighbors. See and hear your neighbors give their recommendations in their own words conveyed with helpful sincerity.

You can also view short videos made by local pros as they showcase their own work on projects in your area that represent the best of their skills and capabilities. You can even see projects going on in your neighborhood with the support of pros who your neighbors have trusted, which very well may inspire you to launch your own project today.

When you are ready, use the app to post a short video of your own home improvement issue. Then, instantly chat with the local pros who you’ve gotten to know through the videos that you have seen.

Once the work is underway or completed by your chosen home service professional, you can post a helpful review video that provides your honest impressions as a priceless guide to others.

Let’s say you want to replace your kitchen sink. The faucet handle leaks a little, the sink design is a bit dated, and it’s just time for a newer look for your kitchen. In the past you would have started your sink project by searching for pros online. You try to pick out a good pro from the hundreds that are presented in search results by reading through user reviews. There might be a picture or two to give you some context, but it’s mostly just cold text written by (hopefully authentic) users. It’s just hard to judge which pro to pick, and so you ask your neighbor. But their favorite pro is booked until next month.

And so, you open up your NearPro app. And right away you see videos of real reviews by real neighbors sharing their heart-felt experiences using real pros that they have worked with.

You find a compelling review about a pro who has done a fantastic job on a kitchen remodel at a neighbor’s home just a few blocks away. Clicking deeper, you see a portfolio of videos made by that pro that show consistent command of craft and thoughtful attention to detail.

Luckily every review video on the NearPro app has a yellow “Chat with Pro” button. So you press it and immediately send a chat message to that recommended pro. In moments, you will have a discussion going that confirms your opinion that this pro is the right one for you.

And the best part is, your favorite pro understands the details of your project because you already uploaded a 30-second video showing your dated sink and your vision for a new modern sink and how it brings new life to your kitchen.

All of the app’s resources are free for you to explore and to use to accomplish your home improvement goals. “But,” you may ask, “how does NearPro keep the lights on?”

Well, we have always disliked the exorbitant fees that pros generally need to pay to lead generation companies in order to constantly find their next customers. Many pros are effectively stuck on a hamster wheel of never-ending fees, most of which goes to pay for leads that never turn into paying jobs. And these high fees get passed down to you as part of the high cost of home improvement.

We want to break this cycle and reduce the cost of your home projects. For now, our solution is to dramatically reduce the cost for your pro to talk with you about your project. It sounds simple, and it is. But this one change can have a large effect on the livelihood of pros and on the improved prices you experience as a customer.

And trust us, we are not done. We are intent on upending the old revenue models and on making home improvement a better and fairer space to participate in for you, your neighbors, and your local professionals.

The app has a built-in video camera. Simply tap on the “Post” icon at the bottom of your home screen to activate it.

Point the camera at your home improvement issue – such as, for example, a hissing toilet with a loose handle. Hit the red ‘record’ button and show how the toilet is making noise and demonstrate how the handle wiggles. Also, use your voice to describe the problem and to provide extra details that might help a pro to address your issue.

To make best use of the 30 seconds that you have available, tap on the ‘Pause’ button to change scenes if needed, and then ‘Resume’.

When prompted, give your video a helpful title. Then provide a few keywords that would help a pro to zero in on your project when searching for a match. For this example, good keywords might be “toilet” and “plumbing”. Also provide your zip code so that you get service from local pros who know your neighborhood best.

Then, note the fine print, that your post is publicly viewable. So, make sure that you are only showing what you feel comfortable showing in your video.

Tap on the big yellow ‘Post’ button and you are done. Now pros can see and deeply understand your project through the power of video, all while delivering a better fit between their services and your needs.

The app has a built-in chat feature, so that all of your chat messaging with pros stays within the app and does not get mixed up with your other chat message apps. Tap on the ‘Chat’ button at the bottom of the home page and you will see a list of your existing projects. You can tap on any project and can immediately begin chatting with one or more pros.

Select a pro to chat with using the ‘Select Chat’ region at the bottom of the screen. If you would like to add more pros to your project, tap on the ‘Find more Pros’ button and view additional relevant videos. Simply tap on the yellow ‘Chat with Pro’ button on any video presented and that pro will be added to your chat conversation.

You can post a review video about a pro at any point after first engaging in a chat conversation with that pro. Generally, you would create a review video upon a project’s completion or at key points along the way during your project.

The steps needed to make a review video are the same as for making a project video, except for one additional step. When asked for the ‘Posting type’, select ‘Review a Pro’ from the drop-down menu and then tap on the yellow ‘Pick a Pro to review’ button. Simply select the pro from the list that is presented.

Please keep in mind that you can only provide a review video for a pro with whom you have engaged in a chat conversation before.

Tap on the ‘Me’ button at the bottom of the home screen. At the top of your own ‘Me’ page you will see a spot for you to upload your own picture and profile video. The profile video provides you with the opportunity to introduce yourself as a real neighbor with real connections to your neighborhood.

The bottom of the page has a spot for you to see your own project videos, your own review videos, and videos that you have saved while browsing through the app.

If you tap on the ‘three bars’ icon in the upper-right corner of the screen, a settings menu opens up. From here you can view and edit your account settings, read through frequently asked questions, and update your app. You can also review the NearPro privacy policy and terms of use.

And there is good news when you do get to the quoting stage on the NearPro app. NearPro customers have shown their commitment to their projects simply by making those project videos that you see. Now here’s a bonus: Another pro who knows you can even promote your customer’s reviews to their own customers, and you can return the favor, so that you both benefit. Pros helping pros. Love it.

The app and all of its services are free for your customers. But for you as a pro, it’s $25.

Here are the rules: You pay this amount when you send your first chat message to a customer about a new project.

That’s pretty much it.

Your first chat message might be when you reply back to a customer who saw one or your videos and then sent you a message about their own project. Or your first chat message might be when you saw a project video that you liked, you tapped on the yellow “Chat request” button, and then pre-emptively sent out your first chat message to the customer introducing yourself to them.

Either way, you only pay once. After that, chat as much as you like.

The best part is that you can see and hear what you need to know about a project before paying to chat with your customer. You decide what projects are the best fit for you. You don’t pay anything until you are ready to move forward with a conversation with your customer. We think that’s only fair. Don’t you?
